A Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) consists of many tiny sensor nodes, each node having a radio transceiver, a micro controller and a power source usually in the form of a battery. WSNs are used in many industrial and civilian applications such as healthcare monitoring, environmental monitoring, building automation, traffic control, logistics, wildlife monitoring, facility management, etc.
Today, there exist several standardization bodies and promotional organizations (ZigBee, WirelessHART, ISA100, IPSO alliance, IETF, etc.) which are focused on different areas of WSNs. One of the most open standardization bodies is the IETF. IETF currently has actively involved in developing standards for WSNs. This seminar is mainly devoted to presenting the current IETF standards developed by the above mentioned working groups, highlighting some practical applications and also with a few hands-on experiences.

Digital Audio offers numerous advantages in recording, editing, storage and transmission of audio signals. However, some restrictions and "pitfalls" that may lead to audible impairments are to be taken into account. Based on the fundamentals of digital signal processing we will learn about the sampling theorem, quantization and filtering of audio signals and take a closer look at the effects of clipping, noise and data compression - in theory as well as in short hands-on exercises.

In the era of globalization understanding cultural differences and particularities has become a vital soft skill and an important ingredient for working successfully in multicultural teams. While studying and working abroad as well as living in multicultural societies has become commonplace, cultural differences are still a major cause for misunderstanding and confusion.
In this workshop you will be introduced to German cultural standards and thereby develop a better understanding of what makes your German colleagues or clients tick, as well as improve your understanding of a variety of intercultural situations. The workshop makes use of short interdisciplinary, theoretical presentations, group exercises, role-plays and discussions.
